As others have unfortunately noted, this establishment's single greatest liability is its owner. Any customer who is critical of management or the place itself is branded as "difficult" or a "troublemaker" and is treated accordingly. To be fair, customers are NOT always right, and some of the remarks (or accusations) made here about Brett the owner are a bit ridiculous and "far out", making one question the overall credibility and motives of their writers. However, there is ABSOLUTE truth to the claims that he has verbally ridiculed, confronted, refused to serve, removed or banned customer(s) who have condemned his actions or challenged his authority. Besides personal experience, just speaking to random customers (those who I know personally as well as those I've met for the first time) confirms this.

It is also fact that bars and restaurants have one of the highest failure rates of any business venture. I don't know of any establishment that can survive long-term in a volatile and competitive business climate when its owner refuses to acknowledge or respond to negative customer feedback in a constructive manner (or accept responsibility for it in the first place). Management's practice of indicting rather than listening will continue to work against it.
PROS:Mostly friendly crowd and strong, reasonably-priced drinks.
CONS:Owner's poor customer handling skills and his failure to acknowledge that it is a problem.

All bars have to deal with their fair share of"trouble" customers and drunks. This one is no different. The problem is, those are very often the type of people who take to sites like this one to spout off and exact their revenge. These people have often times been cut off from drinking and/or asked to leave, or in the extremes, banned from the bar indefinitely... It is a shame that these sites allow these charges and unfair personal attacks on bars, their staff and their owners to stand. That said, I offer my review.

The Long Island Eagle is NO LONGER a Leather/Levi/Motorcycle/Bear/Older Bar... although, those who fit into that category are still more than welcome there. Today, The Long Island Eagle is a well attended bar whose customer base is of the most eclectic in the region. Gay Men - mostly 25-35 - make up the base of this trendy crowd. Women, both straight and gay, are a growing demographic for the club. More and more straight and i-curious men are finding a good time at The LI Eagle as well. It is not uncommon to find Drag Queens and Leathermen at the club on the same night. The mix of people is vibrant, suprising, and refreshing. There is someone for everyone there. The old decor of cluttered walls and aged furnishings have been replaced with a smart and sleek sophisticated look that the club surely needed. The huge, well-appointed patio space, VERANDA at The Long Island Eagle, boasting a covered seating section with a pond and heat, is the perfect place to hang out and smoke and enjoy a cocktail with friends. Ample parking. The bathrooms are in the beginning stages of a complete remodeling, which is well needed. Weekends are packed. Bar opens every night at 9pm and Sundays-6pm... Bar closes at 4am... See You There!
PROS:great drinks and remarkably low prices.
friendly staff.
great music and amazing jukebox.
DJ Joe Mendez
beautiful patio space
convenient to the Bay Shore LIRR Station.
The inside has been redone and is spacious, clean and comfortable.
CONS:parking lot fills up quickly and often time you will have to find parking on the surrounding surface streets.
The bathrooms need work.

I always have a great time when I go to this bar. I have been going there for about 10 years and I have seen the bar completely transfom itself from a sleepy somber environment with a small crowd made up predominently of older hirsuit men to the vibrant, diverse and eclectic crowd that makes the place so interesting today. The new owner gets a bad rap because he runs the place with a strong grip, but he has a heart of gold and his business decisions have been good for the bar. This is a bar that needed new life breathed into it, and new life it has gotten. Some people out there hate change and wanted this bar to remain the sleepy little venue it once was, they seem disgruntled. But the young energetic new crowd that the bar has been attracting makes this place a must visit for Gay Bars on Long Island. While bars are closing left and right on the island, this bar must be doing something right.
PROS:this place has THE MOST AMAZING JUKEBOX. EVER! ANYWHERE! i've never paid a cover charge to get in. the drinks are really well made and the prices are relatively cheap by Long Island standards. Major PRO-their LI Ice tea. David makes the most amazing drinks and his customer service skills are spot on.
CONS:The parking lot is dark. The bathrooms need remodeling. They tend to use plastic disposable cups on busy nights, I understand why, but i like my drink in a glass. On busy nights (fri and sat) they need more staff behind the bar.

WENT THERE WITH FRIENDS AND WAS HAVING A GOOD TIME UNTIL MY FRIEND LEFT KEYS IN CAR AND DEALT WITH OWNER. THIS MAN IS ANGRY, RUDE AND TOTALY UNPROFESSIONAL. HE LITERALLY WAS CURSING AT US TO "GET THE FUCK OFF THE PROPERTY" HE SHUT DOOR AND WOULD NOT ALLOW US BACK IN. HE LOOKED LIKE HE WAS ON SOME HARD CORE DRUGS AND COMPLETELY OUT OF HIS MIND. HE GOT IN MY FACE AND I THOUGHT WAS READY TO ASSULT ME. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. I PLAN ON REPORTING HIM AND THE ESTABLISHMENT TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. HE SERVES ALCOHOL TO MINORS ALSO. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN.
PROS:NO PROS
CONS:THE WHOLE PLACE IS HORRIBLE BEGINNING AND ENDING WITH THE OWNER.

The owner is rude rude rude angry and just plain obnoxious. I plan on reporting him because he does not know a thing about customer service and the place needs to be shut down.
PROS:nothing positive about the place. avoid it and find another place to hang out with friends.
CONS:the whole place is a con! never to go again and will make sure friends never go.

I would recommend finding a better gay bar/club to spend your time and money at. i have been going here for many years, there is a new owner there now. from my first hand experience on several occasions i had seen the own lash out at customers and employees. i have also been told the bar has had patrons who have been going there for over 15 years and refuse to go back again since the owner has horrible anger problems and the place has just went down hill. rumor has it the owner has also been arrested for sexual assault and is a sex offender. ive seen the new sign passing by that says veranda and they have added bamboo curtains that hang on the side of the building with some plants and rugs out back i have been told. its seems like this bar has made a turn for the worst and singles out specific people/crowds. since the new owner has taken over since he has been heavily hooked on hardcore drugs for a while now. so sad to see when thing like this happen and hope the bar falls into someones hands who will run a business the way it should be run. until then i refuse to go there as well.
PROS:good drinks...but then again not hard to make a drink.
CONS:too many to list.

My boyfriend and I love this bar. We were visiting family on Long Island for a week and discovered The Long Island Eagle quite by accident. The bar had a new owner who was there nearly every night that we went and he went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and part of the family. The drinks were really inexpensive and STRONG. The music was great. The regular clientele (hello Neal) were so cool they made us feel welcome. And there was no shortage of eye candy to drool over (hello Bobby)! The only downside that I can come up with is that the Bathroom was less than desirable, but the new owner tells us that they are next on the renovations list. The rest of the place is beautiful. We had the best time and can't wait to return.
