:: February 23 - OC Beer Pong Tournament

February 23, 2008 BarFinder.com ran a Beer Pong tournament at Bobby McGees Restaurant in Brea, California. It was a great day. 36 teams came out for this event and played their hearts out. We want to thank everyone who came out to play and hope everyone had a great time.

36 teams came out to play, all competing for the $500 grand prize. The playing field was split into an East and West tournament. Each half consisted of 18 teams dueling it out in a double elimination tournament. The winners of each faced off in a heated best of 3 final to determine the GRAND CHAMPION. Wet Bandits won it all, with Pure Filth taking 2nd and winning $100 and then Team Beirut at 3rd and 50% got 4th. There was a play off for 3rd since both teams had matching records. for the East.

EAST BRACKET

Team Beirut lost their first match of the day to Pure Filth putting them directly in the losers bracket. They pulled it together and battled their way back into the finals to again have a rematch against Pure Filth. They beat Pure Filth once only to have their dreams of a finals birth shattered when they suffered their second loss of the day to the same team.

WEST BRACKET

The West was up for grabs pretty much all day. 4 or 5 teams were in a position to take the West all day. Team America played 3 matches before facing The Faction who was having their way with teams. The Faction lost their first match against Team America and then lost their next match to Nasty Boys putting them out of the tournament. Nasty Boys seemed to have been on fire. They lost their first match of the day to Sexual Chocolate who went 1-2. In the losers brackets Nasty Boys won 4 in row and had momentum which many thought would carry them into the finals for the West. 50% and Wet Bandits were smoking teams in early matches. Then they faced each other in the quarter finals. Wet Bandits sent 50% packing for the losers bracket. This is where things went wrong for the fired up Nasty Boys. 50% ended Nasty Boys streak and then did away with Team America who was sent to the losers bracket by Wet Bandits right after sending 50% there. Like the East bracket played out, 50% won their rights to a rematch against the team who sent them to the losers bracket earlier. They again faced Wet Bandits. 50% could not muster up what was needed to get even 1 victory over Wet Bandits.

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

After ending 50%'s and Team Beirut's chances for $500, Wet Bandits and Pure Filth played a best of 3 championship match for the grand prize. Wet Bandits came out on top.

Side Notes

This was the first time a coed team won the championship. Congrats!!! Peter and Kerrie from SCBP. Our first championship womens team, Flippy Biscuit was seen at our December 1, 2007 WSOBP III satellite tournament.
